Drug-Related Causes

Diarrhea is the side effect of many drug regimens — from antibiotics to chemotherapy and HIV/AIDS treatment. In many cases, diarrhea becomes the dose-limiting side effect that causes doctors to reduce or suspend treatment and, quite possibly, reduces the efficacy of the treatment regimen. It also results in many patients deciding to forgo further treatments.

Salient is targeting drug-related diarrhea in an effort to enhance therapy and quality of life. Within this area, Salient is first tackling Cancer Therapy-Induced Diarrhea, or CTID. Salient launched a Phase II CTID-focused study at the University of Texas MD Anderson in February 2008 to demonstrate the efficacy of CASAD™ in this arena.
