Chronic Conditions

Diarrhea, often severe, is an unfortunate and often serious medical problem for individuals living with chronic illnesses such as  Crohn’s Disease, Hepatitis C, HIV/AIDS, inflammatory bowel disease [IBD], certain bacterial infections and similar gastrointestinal conditions. Together, these diseases affect millions of people every year, negatively impact an individual's quality of life and result in millions of doctor and hospital visits.

These serious diseases commonly require treatment with therapies that are, in themselves, often toxic and debilitating. These include, for example, chemotherapy drugs, and/or strong antibiotics. Diarrhea is a frequent consequence of the very therapy that is intended to help alleviate the disease. The core component in Salient’s novel product selectively adsorbs certain harmful toxins and inflammatory proteins believed to be involved in the etiology of diarrhea. The Company believes this adsorption capability may lead to more optimal treatment of these diseases and conditions without further damage to the GI tract.
