Salient Pharmaceuticals Announces Formation of Scientific Advisory Board for Strategic Vision
HOUSTON, Texas — Salient Pharmaceuticals Incorporated, a company developing a novel product for the prevention and/or treatment of severe diarrhea, today announced the establishment of the company’s Scientific Advisory Board. Chosen for their experience and reputation, the clinical, research, academic and business advisors will help guide the Company in the development of its proprietary products.
Initial members include chairman Robert A. Newman, PhD, professor emeritus from the University of Texas’ MD Anderson Cancer Center and Chief Science Officer of New Chapter, Inc.; Robert H. Carpenter, DVM – the Company’s Chief Science Officer and adjunct professor at Texas A&M University; H. Andrew Hansen II, MD of Central Texas Cardiovascular Surgery and the Company’s Medical Director; and Chen Adam Zong, PhD, an experienced pharmaceutical industry executive.
This is an important step for the Company,” said Richard Scruggs, President and CEO of Salient Pharmaceuticals. “These individuals, as well as others we expect to announce in the very near future, will help Salient shape its product development plan based on real world clinical and research perspectives. I am especially excited that an independent party, Dr. Newman, will serve as our chairman. While at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Newman led the team that conducted many of the in vitro experiments that served as the groundwork for Salient’s recently launched Phase II clinical trial,” he added.
The Scientific Advisory Board’s primary charter is to provide advice and counsel as to the soundness of the Company’s science position and open doors for the Company. For Salient, the board will also help guide its research focus and provide input into clinical trial plans. The Board is also expected to provide marketplace insight and aid in the prioritization of potential applications of the Company’s technology.
Now the subject of multiple pre-clinical and clinical studies, Salient’s proprietary lead compound is intended for use in treating severe diarrhea associated with chemotherapy, chronic conditions, infectious diseases and other drug therapies.
